2023 Stephen Schafer
Silver Lake is home to the largest concentration of custom-designed houses by architect Richard J. Neutra in the world. Following a lecture by author and Neutra scholar, Barbara Lamprecht, PhD., at the historic Neutra Office Building (1950), participants will tour the office apartments, Reunion House (1950), VDL Studio and Residences (1932; 1964), and other homes along Neutra Place. The Reunion and VDL Houses are the only two homes in which Neutra himself lived and worked. Participants will also walk the Colony along Neutra Place to view homes Neutra designed between 1948 and 1962 and learn the history of this unique neighborhood.
This is a walking tour, please wear comfortable shoes. Participants can get to the tour starting location (TBD) on their own or leave from USC with a volunteer prior to the tour and take public transit to the site.
