Lay of the Land

Los Angeles itself is a case study in the pluralistic nature of modernism. The city was a hotbed of architectural innovation for much of the twentieth century. Its architecture reflects the trends and patterns of modernism, yet it is simultaneously local, representing a specific Southern California context. As a sprawling, primarily twentieth-century city with a population of nearly 4 million people situated within a larger metropolitan area of nearly 12.5 million, the Los Angeles region is a modern megacity.

Hotel Accommodations

Docomomo has reserved a room block for Thursday, March 12–Saturday, March 21, 2026, at USC Hotel – the preferred hotel of the 19th International Docomomo Conference.

Additional Details

  • Preferred rate includes complimentary WiFi and access to the fitness center.

  • Guest check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 am. All guests arriving before 3:00 PM will be accommodated as rooms become available. Bags may be stored prior to check-in or after check-out.

  • Self-parking is available at $20.00 flat per car, per night. Bus parking is $135.00 per bus, per night.

  • The USC Hotel is a non-smoking hotel. Guests may not smoke in any hotel guest room; however, the hotel does allow smoking in designated outdoor locations. If a guest smokes inside a guest room, a $250.00 cleaning fee surcharge will be assessed.

  • Cancellations for individual reservations must be made at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled arrival date. If a cancellation is made more than 72 hours in advance, a refund will be provided, subject to the attrition policy. For cancellations made within 72 hours of the arrival date, a charge equivalent to the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes will apply.

Docomomo will also be reserving a room block at the Freehand Hotel during the Student Workshop. The Freehand has a variety of rooms available from Shared Bunk Room for up to eight to King Rooms and Suites.
