LA may not be known for its skyscrapers but downtown, they pack quite a punch. The city’s skyline is studded with towers that tell the story of its evolution, from iconic art deco structures to inventive late modern hotels to contemporary corporate design office buildings. This tour features buildings by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; John Portman; and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, among others, as well as landscapes designed by Lawrence Halprin. Get up close to the public art tucked away within the plazas of sleek high-rises, and enjoy the views from the postmodern Bunker Hills Steps. Step inside the ‘70s when you visit the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, one of L.A.’s most recognizable and beloved Late Modern buildings.
This tour:
Complements the Bunker Hill tour, which highlights the city’s civic and cultural center. It duplicates material on the Modernism by Moonlight tour.
