Icons of Innovation: Neutra and Wright in Bakersfield

Ablin Residence, 1960, Frank Lloyd Wright

With an economy fueled by oil and agriculture, Bakersfield drew master modern architects from Southern California to design residences and commercial buildings. Further fueled by a devastating 1952 earthquake, the city became a hub of Modern architecture. Participants will tour the interiors of the Davis Residence (Richard J. Neutra, 1937), the Leddy Residence (Richard J. Neutra, 1958), The Ablin Residence (Frank Lloyd Wright, 1960), the Sill Building (Franklin and Kump, 1940), and the Nickel Residence (Cliff May, 1975-78).

This day-long tour includes a lecture, coach transportation, boxed lunch, and a guided tour of the six sites.
